How to Find Out What Your Used Phone Is Worth
A step-by-step way to get a realistic value for your used iPhone or Android phone.
A used phone doesn't have one price. It has several, depending on how you sell it. A private buyer, a buyback company and a manufacturer trade-in program will each offer something different for the same phone.
1. Identify your exact phone
Look up your model and storage size. On iPhone, go to Settings → General → About. On Android, go to Settings → About phone. Storage size matters, and so does whether it's a Pro, Plus or Ultra model.
2. Be honest about condition
- Excellent: barely any marks, everything works.
- Good: normal wear, everything works.
- Fair: obvious scratches or dents, still fully working.
- Damaged: cracked glass, a bad battery, or broken parts.
3. Compare the right kind of price
Completed sales show what buyers actually paid. Asking prices only show what sellers hope to get. Buyback and trade-in offers are instant but usually lower. Compare like with like.
4. Check the date
Phone prices change over time, especially around new launches. A price from several months ago may already be out of date.
